Protect yourself from flu by getting vaccinated

5. September 2025

With the arrival of the autumn season, the risk of influenza – a highly contagious viral illness that can have serious consequences, especially for seniors and chronically ill patients – is on the rise again.. While conventional prevention such as vitamins and hygiene helps, the only proven effective protection is vaccination.

Procedure for vaccination directly in our clinic

We are also comfortable treating patients directly with us who do not have a Health Care Provider Agreement with us. The procedure is simple:

  1. Check your health. It is essential that at the time of vaccination you have no symptoms of acute illness (fever, cough, runny nose) and are not convalescing. In the following cases, it is necessary to consult a doctor before vaccination:
    • taking corticosteroids or immunosuppressants (immunosuppressive drugs),
    • recent vaccination with another vaccine,
    • a more severe reaction after a previous vaccination,
    • an ongoing acute or severe chronic illness,
    • known allergies (especially to egg white).
  2. Request an ePrescription for the flu vaccine by filling out the form via Virtual Nurse Emma in the 💊 I need a prescription section: Virtual Nurse Emmy
  3. Pick up the vaccine at any pharmacy. For your convenience, the nearby Troy Pharmacy (just 30m from the outpatient clinic) usually has vaccines available. Important: Unless the vaccine will be administered directly after collection from the pharmacy, it should be kept refrigerated. The vaccine is fully covered by your health insurance.
  4. Come for vaccination. Then come to our outpatient clinic with the vaccine and we will vaccinate you.

Vaccination times:

  • No appointment needed: we will see you Monday through Friday after 9:30am and on Wednesdays during office hours.
  • On the exact date: If you prefer an exact time, simply book through Emma’s virtual sister.

The most important facts about vaccination

  • How does it work? The vaccine contains killed viruses, so the body develops protective antibodies that prevent or significantly reduce the disease.
  • When will it take effect? Protection occurs approximately 10 to 14 days after vaccination.
  • When to get vaccinated? The ideal period is October-November.
  • Is it covered by insurance? Yes, vaccinations are fully covered by all health insurance companies.
  • How often? As the flu virus changes, the vaccination needs to be repeated every year.
  • Can pregnant and breastfeeding women take it? The vaccine is safe at all stages of pregnancy and also during breastfeeding

For whom is vaccination crucial?

We recommend vaccination for all our patients, but it is especially important for people over 59 years of age and for patients with long-term illnesses. The groups most at risk include patients with cardiovascular disease , diabetics and people with chronic respiratory diseases (e.g. asthmatics). For these patients, influenza poses a risk of serious complications, worsening of their underlying disease and more frequent hospital admissions
